Weekend Tour in Chandannagar
Chandernnagar, THE
FRENCH AROMA
The
French gave up Chandernnagar in 1950.
Though small in extent, Chandernnagar
(Chandannagar) is articulate in its tradition. Chandernnagar is a separate self-fulfilling
chapter in the history of alien rule in India. When the entire Bengal, nay India, was
under the British rule, inspite of being under the French administration at that time
Chandernnagar created a distinct tradition. Chandernnagar has been marked as a successful
place of worship in the holy rites of revolution.
Chandernnagar still retains the French aroma.
These two buildings which silently stood witness to the battle of Chandernnagar (French
and British, 1757) teaches tolerance to the people of this place even today.
